Lewis Hamilton not panicking after latest setback in championship race

Brit has slipped eight points behind Rosberg after Singapore woes

Lewis Hamilton is refusing to panic despite losing his title lead to Nico Rosberg and hopes for another momentum swing before the end of the season.

Though the world champion held a 19-point lead over his Mercedes team-mate at the summer break, three consecutive Rosberg victories has seen the German take control of the championship.

Hamilton had to make do with third at the Singapore GP as Rosberg marched eight points clear but in a season of twists and turns, the Englishman knows all too well that there is still plenty to play for.

"The next race will tell," Hamilton said when asked if the manner of his defeat was a one-off. "I'm not thinking about it too much at the moment.

After suffering with brake problems in Singapore, Lewis Hamilton said it was a trying weekend.

"We still have six races so I've got to keep pushing and hope for the best."

Rosberg fended off a late charge from Daniel Ricciardo to claim victory in Singapore, becoming the first non-champion to win in the city-state in the process, with Hamilton finishing eight seconds further back.

But rather than bemoaning his luck and the mechanical issues he faced over a challenging weekend, Hamilton paid tribute to his team-mate and admitted he must raise his level to keep up with a man in form.

''Nico just did an exceptional job this weekend and we didn't,'' he added. "What it's going to take for the momentum to change? Just some good weekends which we've had in the past.

"We've come from 43 points down so theoretically eight points isn't anywhere near as steep as that but still, Nico's been performing fantastically well. I expect him to continue like that so I've got to make sure that I do the same."

Toto Wolff hailed Rosberg's performance as the most complete he has seen from the German since taking charge of Mercedes as the 31-year-old converted his staggering qualifying advantage into a faultless race.

After winning the Singapore GP and taking an eight-point lead, Nico Rosberg dismissed talk of winning the title.

However, despite dominating Hamilton to close in on a maiden F1 championship, Rosberg insists "nothing has changed" in the title race.

"I had a great weekend again, but nothing has changed as my team-mate is still Lewis," Rosberg explained.

"Lewis is always going to be very difficult to beat, and very fast. He always comes back strong even after a difficult weekend so it will be a battle all the way as always."
