Japanese GP: Carlos Sainz crashes out of Practice One

Toro Rosso's Carlos Sainz brought out the red flag in Suzuka after crashing in the first practice session.

Carlos Sainz was involved in a heavy crash after spinning his Toro Rosso into the barriers during Practice One at the Japanese GP.

Sainz ran wide at the Turn 10 hairpin and was on the astroturf as he looked to get on the power, losing control and shunting into the trackside barriers at Suzuka.

His Toro Rosso sustained significant damage from the hit, and was jolted into the air and across the track. The session was red flagged with the car stricken on the circuit, surrounded by plenty of debris.

The crash came after Sainz's 20-place grid drop was confirmed, with the Spaniard taking a new MGU-H, ICE and turbocharger this weekend.
