Fernando Alonso would welcome more F1 live events after the sport's successful roadshow in London - and believes replicas in countries without an F1 race would be a good idea.

Although he didn't drive during the show, Alonso was a keen trackside spectator as F1's showcase in the centre of London drew rave reviews and what the two-time world champion believes to have been a brand new audience for the sport.

"Hopefully this is the first of many of these events," said Alonso. "[For] many people there yesterday, it was the first time they had watched Formula 1.

"I read the comments from the fans on social media and they now want to come to a grand prix. And that was the main purpose of the event: to engage new people and show what Formula 1 is to a new generation and the new people there."

The event was held less than a two-hour drive from Silverstone, the venue of this weekend's British GP, prompting some to suggest an F1 city roadshow would be better served in a country that doesn't currently hold a grand prix.

"Maybe 20 per cent, 30 per cent of the people, it was the first time they had seen Formula 1 live and because of that show they want to come to a Formula 1 grand prix," said Alonso. "That would be even more interesting in countries where they don't have that possibility. It would be a good idea."

Alonso's competitive nature, however, also spotted room for improvement in the event.

"To do more things, that might impact on the city too much, but maybe a small competition would be welcome? A one-timed lap or an elimination? I was a spectator and not driving and after two laps it was enough - you had seen everything that was going to happen. No pit-stop challenge, which the people could have enjoyed.

"But it was the first event and it was already a lot. It was fantastic."
