Silverstone insist no decision on dropping the British GP has been made yet

Newspapers reported this week circuit owners would "definitely drop" the race; BRDC say no decision will be made until mid-July.

The British Racing Drivers' Club have dismissed reports that Silverstone will definitely drop the British GP, insisting a decision will not be made until mid-July.

Newspapers claimed earlier this week that the circuit would exercise a clause in their Formula 1 contract to cease hosting the race after 2019. A report in The Sun quoted a source as saying "they will definitely drop the grand prix".

However, Silverstone's owners say the reports "are speculative and wrong" and that they will decide on the races future over the next six months.

"Our objective is to preserve the British Grand Prix at Silverstone for many years to come but, of course, we can only do this if it makes economic sense," said BRDC Chairman John Grant.

"As I have said before, we will be considering over the next six months if we should give notice of our intention to exercise the break clause in our Grand Prix contract at the end of 2019.

"No decision has been made, or will be made, until mid July. In the meantime, we will be using this period to explore with all interested parties, hopefully in private, various ways in which we might work out a more sustainable proposition".
