Michael van Gerwen was at it again on Thursday as he clinched top spot in the 2018 Premier League - he has gone on to win three titles in the the last five years
'It's what he does,' said Wayne Mardle in commentary as the world No 1 secured the point he needed to guarantee the £25,000 winners bonus for finishing in first place in the Premier League.
He went on to hand out a 7-2 beating to world champion Rob Cross as if to underline the point and while admitting Aberdeen does not matter, you get the feeling that won't be the case at the BHGE Arena next week when he faces Gary Anderson.
Prior to Van Gerwen's introduction into the Premier League fold, Phil Taylor had finished top of the pile for eight successive seasons, but Taylor's league dominance was soon thwarted by the imperious Dutchman.
Here's a look back at how 'The Green Machine' has commanded the league phase of this competition since his debut in 2013 and sets his sights on a third successive year as the champion.
2018
Van Gerwen suffered a 7-5 defeat against Peter Wright in week two, before registering eight successive wins to storm clear at the top of the table.
He suffered back-to-back defeats on a humbling return to home soil in Rotterdam, but MVG returned to winning ways with victory over Daryl Gurney in Manchester, before securing top spot with another ruthless win over Cross, a 7-2 success in Birmingham mirrored his victory in Dublin in the opening week.
Despite his dominance of the regular season 'Mighty Mike' has only gone on to lift the title in three of the previous five years, and how Peter Wright threw away the final last year remains a mystery so perhaps his bid for a third straight Premier League crown may not be a formality...
2017
'The Green Machine' defied a late surge from Peter Wright to finish one point clear at the top of the table in 2017.
'Snakebite' won his final four league games to finish on 23 points but Van Gerwen narrowly usurped the Scot's tally, with the only blemishes in another impressive campaign resulting in defeats against Raymond van Barneveld and Phil Taylor.
However, the world number one enjoyed some good fortune to clinch the title on finals night. He fought back from 7-2 down in the final against Wright to prevail; surviving six match darts in the penultimate leg of a dramatic finale.
2016
Van Gerwen's march to his second Premier League crown was arguably his most emphatic.
The Dutchman suffered opening night defeat at the hands of James Wade, but was not beaten again for the remainder of the season.
Van Gerwen won 11 and drew four of his remaining league fixtures to amass 26 points- his highest tally to date. He then breezed to victory at the O2 Arena, easing past Adrian Lewis 11-4, before dispatching Taylor 11-3 in the final.
2015
The 2015 Premier League season was the closest Van Gerwen came to missing out on top spot.
The Boxtel ace went unbeaten for his first 10 league games, but was then condemned to three defeats in five weeks at the hands of Van Barneveld, Anderson and Lewis.
He faced a straight shoot-out for top spot against Dave Chisnall on the final night of league action - breaking throw in the decider to salvage a point and clinch top spot from under Chizzy's nose.
However, after fighting back from 7-4 down in his semi-final clash against Van Barneveld, Van Gerwen fell to an 11-7 defeat against an inspired Anderson in the final, which clinched the Scot's second Premier League title.
2014
Van Gerwen finished four points clear of his fellow countryman Van Barneveld in the 2014 campaign, but this proved futile on a night of drama at the O2 Arena.
'The Green Machine' was only beaten by Van Barneveld, Taylor and Anderson in the league phase, before edging out Anderson in a last-leg decider to reach the final.
However, MVG succumbed to his compatriot in the final. Van Barneveld had ended his run of six successive semi-final defeats in the Premier League with victory over Taylor, before dispatching Van Gerwen 10-6 to seal glory.
2013
Van Gerwen's debut Premier League appearance in 2013 ended Phil Taylor's league-phase monopoly.
'The Power' had finished top in each of the tournament's eight previous stagings, but Van Gerwen's introduction sparked a changing of the guard.
MVG topped the table on 24 points, one ahead of Van Barneveld. Taylor finished third on 20 points but 'Mighty Mike' defeated 'The Power' 10-8 in a gripping finale, taking out 132 on the bullseye to seal title glory.
The 2018 Premier League is back for the final league night next Thursday as we head to Aberdeen for Week 15. Coverage gets underway from 7pm on Sky Sports Action. The tungsten action will then continue through to the season's conclusion with the Play-Offs on Thursday, May 17 at The O2 in London.
