Phil 'The Power' Taylor could be the value bet ahead of this year's PDC World Championship, starting later this month.

The 16-time world champion was denied in last year's final losing 7-6 to Gary Anderson but looks a big price at 4/1 with Sky Bet to go one better this time around and win his first title since 2013.

Taylor hasn't had the best of seasons but has been working hard on the doubles in the build up to the event at Alexander Palace where he aims to reclaim the world No 1 mantle.

The in-form Michael van Gerwen goes into the event as the undisputed 6/5 favourite after claiming the Masters, UK Open, World Matchplay, Grand Slam and World Series finals, but it's not expected to be a straightforward route to the final for the Dutchman.

Van Gerwen, who has taken a break in the build up to the World Championships, could face fellow countryman Raymond van Barneveld (40/1) in the third round, Peter Wright (22/1) or Michael Smith (40/1) in the quarters and Adrian Lewis (16/1), Dave Chisnall (25/1) or Anderson in the semis. A repeat of last year's semi-final between Anderson and van Gerwen is 7/2 with the online bookmaker.

Defending champion Gary Anderson is the 6/1 third favourite but has struggled to regain his best form since landing the Premier League title back in May.

He said: "I think Taylor has a relatively straightforward draw to the semis, where he will want to avenge his defeat to Anderson in last year's final.

"Many will be doubting him and I know it will be eating away at him that he's not the undisputed No 1. He will be as pumped up as ever to regain the prize of being the world's best darts player."
