Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh is returning home from the Indian Premier League after suffering a side strain.
Marsh featured in the opening two games of the tournament for the Rising Pune Supergiants before being omitted for three matches.
He returned to action in the victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 26, taking 2-14, but was then ruled out of Friday's defeat to the Gujarat Lions after hurting himself during a training session.
Marsh, 24, has since undergone scans and it has been decided he will head back to Australia for further treatment.
Cricket Australia sports science and sports medicine manager Alex Kountouris said: "Mitchell experienced some pain over his left abdominal area whilst batting at a training session with his team Pune in the IPL a few days ago.
"He missed his team's next game and the pain has not resolved. He had scans in India that suggest he has a side strain injury and will now return home for further assessment and treatment.
Australia will compete in a Tri-Nation one-day series in the West Indies, which also involves South Africa, from June 5-21
"Once we have a better understanding of the extent of the injury we will be able to advise on his return to play timeframes," added Kountaris.
Marsh is the third Supergiants international star to suffer a tournament-ending injury after Kevin Pietersen tore his calf muscle and was ruled out until November and South African Faf du Plessis broke his finger.
