Sir Ian Botham expects bookmakers to “take a hiding” for making Australia favourites for the second Test of the Investec Ashes series.

Michael Clarke's side suffered a crushing 169-run defeat at Cardiff inside four days but still head to Lord's as Sky Bet's 11/8 favourites - a move that staggers the former England skipper.

"How can Australia be favourites? They were outplayed in the first match and I don't see them winning at Lord's,” he told Sky Sports.

"I think the bookies will take a hiding siding with Australia in this match, I really do. Come on bookies, get behind England."

With England already 1-0 up in the five-match series, Botham insists Australia are “under real pressure” to deliver a performance at Lord's.

He added: "They will be licking their wounds and putting that performance in Cardiff behind them as soon as possible, if not already, and try to put things right but I think they are going to struggle to put things right

"England hold all the aces. Mitchell Starc, we don't know how fit he is, he's got problems. The loss of Ryan Harris when it happened was a massive blow and it's looking even worse now. Mitchell Johnson struggled at Cardiff - their attack is under real pressure."

England have real momentum after the win in Cardiff and I expect them to carry that into this match.

The tourists have lost on their last two visits to Lord's, having last won back in 2005 before suffering heavy defeats in 2009 and 2013, and Botham expects that run to continue.

He added: "Australia don't look at things in a negative way and they will be looking to bounce back. Teams who play at Lord's tend to raise their game and no doubt they'll be determined to square the series.

"But England have performed well at Lord's recently, they have real momentum after the win in Cardiff and I expect them to carry that into this match."

Adam Lyth says he won't change his attacking style ahead of the second Ashes Test at Lord's against Australia.

Botham is tipping skipper Alastair Cook to top score in the first innings for England at odds of 4/1. Cook scored 162 in England's victory over New Zealand at Lord's in May and Botham is sticking with England's record run scorer.

Botham added: "It would be easy to back Root after his great display in Cardiff but Cook has a good record at Lord's and, while he didn't get too many at Cardiff, I think he's due a score."
