Michael Clarke and Chris Rogers made an emotional farewell to international cricket after helping Australia win the fifth and final Ashes Test against England at The Oval.
Rogers scored five centuries in his 25-Test career while Clarke played almost 400 matches across all formats for Australia, after making his international debut more than 12 years ago.
"I think both Chris and I made it very clear to the boys at the start of this Test match that this win was not about us," Clarke told Sky Sports after Australia's innings and 46 run victory in the fifth Test, although the tourists lost the series 3-2.
"It was about us showing that fight, that determination and that grind. It's the Australian way. We're really proud about the result but the result of the series is already done and I think we need to keep that in the front of our mind.
"England and Alastair deserve a lot of credit but it's a really nice way for us to finish that's for sure."
Rogers, who was named Australia's Player of the Series after averaging almost 43 at the top of the order, said: "I'm pretty sad actually. I don't usually get emotional and this is a sad moment but also one to enjoy.
"I've had a fantastic journey and having the honour of finishing at the same time as an Aussie great is amazing and that's a privilege.
"I'll miss the moments when you win and I am going to cherish tonight."
Clarke added: "As Bucky (Rogers) said it's been an amazing journey and part of playing for Australia - whether you play one Test or 100 Tests - you cherish every one. You never want to say goodbye but there' comes a time for everyone and us two old boys, our time is up, but we've had a great time.
"I've been really lucky to have played with some fantastic players and guys that have given the team everything and Chis is certainly one of those, so I have enjoyed every minute of it."
