WHAT THEY SAID

England assistant coach, PAUL FARBRACE: "It's been a very, very tough day for our team. I don't think we've learnt anything that we didn't already know. We don't have that extra pace and we haven't got the highest quality of magical spin. We've got what we've got and we've had to work exceptionally hard. READ MORE HERE!

Australia all-rounder MITCHELL MARSH: "[England] are obviously tired - anytime you spend 140 overs in the dirt it's hard work and you walk off the ground very sore. I am not sure we have broken their spirit but we've put ourselves in a very good position to win this match. READ MORE HERE!

MOMENT OF THE DAY

Smith roared after completing his second Test double hundred - both of them coming against England, the other at Lord's in 2015 - but Marsh's first century probably topped it, with the all-rounder achieving the feat on his home ground, with his brother, Shaun, on the Australia balcony and his father, Geoff, watching from the stands.

Marsh, the 101st Australian to score a ton against England, backed up the selectors' faith, having been preferred to Peter Handscomb for this Test, principally due to the fact he gave Smith a fifth bowling option. Marsh only bowled nine overs in England's first innings but flourished with the bat.

The 26-year-old, who has struck 29 boundaries from his 234 deliveries, reached three figures in his 36th innings for his country and he'll now be eyeing a double on day four as Australia hunt a mammoth lead.

STAT OF THE DAY

Smith has scored 18 centuries in his last 37 Tests - only Don Bradman, with 22, has scored more centuries in a span of 37 Tests.
