Ben Stokes will have an MRI scan to determine the extent of the injury he suffered to his right calf during day four of the second Test against Pakistan at Old Trafford.

The Durham all-rounder pulled up sharply after delivering his second ball of the 22nd over, with Pakistan 68-2, and after being assessed by the physio was forced to leave the field.

Sky Sports pictures then showed the 25-year-old angrily slamming the England changing room door behind him in obvious frustration.

England confirmed soon afterwards that the injury to Stokes, who had just returned to the Test scene following surgery to his left knee, means he will take no further part in the match.

As well as sitting out the Lord's opener against Pakistan, he had to miss the final two Tests of the series against Sri Lanka, and the limited-overs fixtures which followed, after injury struck for the first time this summer at Headingley in May.
