James Anderson's control sets him apart, says Michael Holding

Michael Holding and Sir Ian Botham discuss the impact of James Anderson following England’s series victory against Sri Lanka

James Anderson continued his fine start to the summer with a man-of-the-match performance as England beat Sri Lanka in Durham to seal a Test series win.

The Lancastrian's performances have seen him rise to the top of the ICC Test Bowler Rankings and Michael Holding and Sir Ian Botham were both effusive in their praise of England's swing bowling supremo.

"Jimmy Anderson's main strength is what any fast bowler would like to have as their main strength - control," said Holding. "He puts the ball as close as possible to where he wants to put it. He can get that ball pretty much exactly where he wants it, which is the most important thing for a fast bowler.

"You can bowl 200mph, you can swing it around trees, you can seam it around anything but if it's not starting and ending in the right place it doesn't make sense. Jimmy Anderson has that control to get the ball where he wants it."
