Nick Compton wants England to build on their first Test victory over Sri Lanka ahead of the second Investec Test in Durham, live on Sky Sports.
England won the opening Test of the three-match series at Headingley by an innings and 88 runs and Compton is keen for them to continue that success when the second Test gets under way on Friday.
Compton told Sky Sports News HQ: "We've got to build on the first Test. It was great to be part of that win - to win a Test in three days is fantastic."
Compton, who was dismissed for a duck as England only batted once at Headingley, added: "It would have been nice to score some runs in the first Test but there's been some quality preparation and that's where my focus is, so when I get my chance I'm really on it."
Despite the margin of the victory, Compton said England were not taking anything for granted.
"I think we're a team that feels confident but realise we've got another Test on our hands - and every Test is tough," he added.
Compton also had some sympathy for Sri Lanka following their first Test defeat in conditions which suited England's bowling attack.
"I think the English batsmen, facing Stuart Broad and Jimmy Anderson in these conditions, would find them pretty tough," he added.
"We've got home advantage, they are going to want to adjust and look at some of the replays of the conditions at Headingley and build on it. They're a young team."
