Reece Topley has received an International Cricket Council reprimand for hitting the stumps over in frustration as England lost the first Twenty20 to South Africa in Cape Town.

Topley failed to collect Joe Root's throw from the deep as he tried to run out Kyle Abbott from the final delivery of Friday night's match, and the hosts scampered a two to sneak victory by three wickets and go 1-0 up with just one more to play.

The England seamer, who will turn 22 this week, therefore conceded 15 runs from the last over of the match - 14 of them to big-hitting Chris Morris, as he failed to find his yorker length and was struck for a four and then a six in
successive deliveries.

If Abbott had been run out, the scores would have been level - and a super over required to decide the result.

Instead, South Africa chased 134 for eight to win, and afterwards Topley admitted the Level 1 offence and accepted the minimum sanction proposed by match referee Andy Pycroft - without the need for a formal hearing.
