Sussex fast bowler James Anyon has been forced to retire at the age of 32 due to a persistent knee injury.

Anyon, on his day a dangerous paceman, missed much of the 2014 season and all of the 2015 campaign through injury and Sussex confirmed on Tuesday that he would not be fit for this term and therefore his contract had not been renewed.

Used most in first-class cricket, Anyon took 311 wickets in 110 format matches at an average of 35.22.

Anyon, who joined Sussex in 2009 having played for Warwickshire and on loan for Surrey, said: "It's been a frustrating 18 months having failed to recover from a knee injury.
