The IPL is back! Sometimes these tournaments can take a little while to warm up – but not this one, it was at its scorching best from game one as Chennai Super Kings claimed an incredible one-wicket victory over the defending champions, Mumbai Indians.
After eight England players took part in last year's tournament, a number of late call-ups has seen that number swell to 12 for this campaign.
But how did the England contingent get on in the first round of fixtures? Read on to find out…
Chris Woakes, Royal Challengers Bangalore: Bowling - 4-0-36-3, Ave 12; Batting - Inns 1, Runs 5, Ave 5
A quickfire Sunil Narine fifty saw RCB beaten by Kolkata Knight Riders but Woakes can still be reasonably satisfied with his own performance.
On his debut for Virat Kohli's side, the all-rounder was dismissed for five as he tried to send the last ball of the innings over the ropes but he soon made an impact with the ball.
In a typically tight first over, Woakes varied his pace nicely and was able to oust the dangerous Chris Lynn with his fifth ball.
Narine got after him in his second over but the England man returned later in the innings to remove Rinku Singh, with a sharp short ball, and Andre Russell to give RCB a glimmer of hope.
VERDICT: 7/10
Ben Stokes, Rajasthan Royals: Batting - Inns 1, Runs 5, Ave 5; Bowling - 2-0-21-0, Ave N/A
It was an inauspicious start for last year's MVP. He walked out to loud cheers, even as an away team player, but was quickly up against it as Rashid Khan began to spin his web. Stokes struggled to lay a bat on the Sunrisers leg-spinner but was at least able to survive the over.
The pace of Billy Stanlake was more to Stokes' liking but his timing was still a little off and he clubbed the last ball over the ball straight to long on, where Kane Williamson took the catch at the second attempt.
It was a similar story with the ball as he began with two loose deliveries that Shikhar Dhawan hammered to the fence. For the most part, Stokes tightened his line from then on but when he did stray, Dhawan was on hand to punish him, making for an expensive two-over spell.
VERDICT: 4/10
Jos Buttler, Rajasthan Royals: Batting - Inns 1, Runs 6, Ave 6
Having been used at the top of the order by Mumbai Indians for much of the past two years, Buttler was back in the middle order for Rajasthan.
He arrived with his side in a spot of bother and the position became all the more precarious as another two wickets fell in the next two overs.
Buttler opted to keep the scoring ticking over for an over or two, working singles, but he was gone as soon as he tried to accelerate. Rashid Khan appeared to have dragged one a little short but as Buttler went back to try and pull it, the ball skidded on and took out his off stump.
A disappointing start individually and for the team, as the Royals suffered a nine-wicket defeat.
VERDICT: 4/10
Mark Wood, Chennai Super Kings: Bowling - 4-0-49-0, Ave N/A
Wood was the only England player to have featured to start with a win! He was part of the Chennai side to record a stunning victory over Mumbai on Saturday and the fast bowler was blown away by the atmosphere at the Wankhede Stadium.
The result may have been just what he was after but it things did not go to plan for Wood with the ball. He started well enough but after a tidy first over, he took a bit of punishment as he struggled to nail his yorkers late in the innings and paid the price.
However, Wood will hope to rectify that when Chennai take on KKR in their first home game of the season on Tuesday.
VERDICT: 4/10
The remaining eight England representatives had to make do with a watching brief during the first round of fixtures.
Alex Hales was perhaps the most surprising omission but as the Sunrisers thumped Rajasthan on Monday, he and Chris Jordan may be forced to wait a bit longer before getting their chance.
Delhi Daredevils preferred Colin Munro to Jason Roy at the top of the order but the New Zealander made just four, perhaps giving Roy hope of coming in for their game at Rajasthan on Wednesday.
Liam Plunkett could also come in for Delhi, his late signing meant he was never in contention for the match with Kings XI Punjab.
Tom Curran is the sole Englishman at the Kolkata Knight Riders and watched his side overcome RCB, a better experience than that of Moeen Ali, not included in the RCB XI, in the opposition dugout.
Finally, Sam Billings will at least have enjoyed the result as his CSK team-mates claimed a thrilling victory over Mumbai Indians in game one. He and Wood will be joined by another England team-mate in the coming days after David Willey agreed a deal with Chennai on Monday.
