Tom Curran made Chris Gayle his first ODI wicket as England eased to victory in the fifth and final ODI at the Ageas Bowl.

The Windies opener had already treated the crowd to a flurry of sixes, including five in six balls off Jake Ball, before skying a slower ball from Curran, enabling Liam Plunkett to come around from mid off and take a superb diving catch over his shoulder.

Watch highlights from the fifth ODI in the video above as Curran picked up his maiden ODI wicket and Jonny Bairstow hit his second ODI century in a comfortable England win.

Ball had started with a maiden after England won the toss and chose to bowl first but his figures soon took a turn for the worse as Gayle went on the attack in what could well prove to be his final innings in England.

Once Gayle had departed, the Windies runs began to dry up despite Kyle Hope (33), a replacement for the injured Evin Lewis, looking in his best form of the tour and his brother, Shai, top-scoring with 72.

Some big hitting from debutant Sunil Ambris (38no) and Ashley Nurse (31no) bolstered the Windies total but 288-6 never looked like enough on a good wicket for batting.

That became increasingly apparent as Jason Roy and Bairstow got the England chase off to a blistering start, reaching 71-0 at the end of the first powerplay.

Roy was eventually dismissed just four shy of his fourth ODI century but Bairstow eased through to his second and, with the help of Joe Root (46no), saw England over the line with 12 overs to spare.
