Henry Blofeld bows out of cricket commentary at Lord's

Blowers talks to Bumble and Ian Ward about his retirement from commentary and the reception he received from the Lord's crowd

Henry Blofeld received a standing ovation from the Lord's crowd after bowing out of cricket commentary in the wake of England's 2-1 series win over Windies.

Blofeld, 77, joined Ian Ward and former Test Match Special colleague David Lloyd to reflect on his final stint in Test cricket after a glorious career and was delighted with the marvellous reception he received from fans at the ground - declaring 'It was unbelievable, wasn't it?'

"I did my first broadcast for the BBC in May 1972, and then in August I was joining people like Freddie Brown, Norman Yardley, John Arlott, Brian Johnston, Jim Swanton in a match here at Lord's," he said ahead of his final bow. "I'd defy anyone not to be rather nervous in that situation."

Speaking to Ward, he added: "I'm 78 next week - or is it the week after, something like that - I don't quite see as well.
