James Anderson picked up the only wicket as rain meant only 12.2 overs of play were possible on the final day of the third Investec Test at Lord's.

Heading into day five all three results seemed possible - England needing to bowl Sri Lanka out and the tourists, resuming on 32-0, requiring another 330 to win.

However, the weather ensured that the final outcome was option three: a draw. The rain began to fall shortly before the scheduled start time of 11am and persisted to the extent that the morning session was completely washed out.

Play did finally begin after lunch and Anderson struck in his first over of the day, setting a trap for Kaushal Silva with a number of away-swingers before rapping him on the pads with an in-swinger - the opener caught plum in front.

Test Cricket: The Verdict

Less than two overs later the rain came down again and although the players did return once more after tea for the longest session of the day - 9.4 overs, in which Stuart Broad was unable to hang on to a difficult caught and bowled chance - before another downpour halted proceedings for the final time with Sri Lanka 78-1.
