Nasser Hussain thinks Jos Buttler should play in all formats of the game for England after his match-winning innings against Sri Lanka.
Buttler opened for the first time in the T20I at the Ageas Bowl on Tuesday.
And his unbeaten 73 led England to an eight-wicket win as they comfortably chased down Sri Lanka's 140 all out.
Buttler will now be hoping to be included in the squad for England's Test side for the four-match series against Pakistan, which gets underway on July 14.
"He's unbelievable," said former England captain Hussain on Sky Sports. "At times, he is in a different league, he makes batting look so easy and he is so calm at the crease.
"He is outstanding. I would have him in all forms of the game, he is too good to be playing at Lancashire when there is a Test match going on.
"I know there are other players but he cannot be left in county cricket, he is too good a talent."
As well as a recall for Buttler, who has played 15 Test matches, the last in October 2015, Hussain thinks Joe Root should move up a place in the batting to three.
"He has had a quiet summer, not a bad one, just quiet," he said. "When it was going really well, he probably didn't want to move to three but why not now? He might kickstart his summer in Test cricket."
David Lloyd agreed that Buttler should come into the side, but added: "I would have (James) Vince at three because I'd leave Root where he is. I think there is an opportunity for Vince at three."
Along with Buttler's man-of-the-match performance against Sri Lanka, there were impressive debuts from Liam Dawson and Tymal Mills.
"For Dawson and Mills to come in and do well straight away are massive ticks," said Hussain.
"It can't just be the same players day in, day out, we've seen England's schedule over the next year and they are going to need a massive pool of players."
