Gavin McDonnell is hitting his peak and sits on the brink of another world title shot, but Stuart Hall will be as "dangerous threat" as any on Saturday night, says David Coldwell...
This is a really important time for Gavin and people are starting to take him seriously now. The victory over Gamal Yafai was a big moment in his career and a nice breakout fight in the super-bantamweight division.
It was a great performance against a very good unbeaten fighter and Gavin put everything together excellently as an underdog.
Now, he has to build on that.
This next fight is another tough proposition, it's pretty much last chance saloon for Hall and if he gets beat, he has nowhere to go. That makes him very dangerous and he has so much heart and determination, we know he will keep coming all night.
Hall's strong and heavy-handed so we have to plan accordingly, I believe Gavin has the tools to get the job done.
Right now, Gavin is at his peak, but he knows he needs a big performance. We don't just want to win, we want to look good doing so and make another statement in the division.
Ideally, we want another super-bantamweight world title shot before the end of the year, that's the plan, but we just take things one fight at a time, it'd be foolish to look past Hall. The focus is on winning this and only then will we look at what options are available to us next.
