Broner vs Garcia: The Panel's advice for Adrien Broner ahead of Mikey Garcia bout

By The Panel, Boxers, Trainers & Pundits

Adrien Broner will have to be at his very best to beat Mikey Garcia live on Sky Sports at 1am on Sunday morning

Adrien Broner's biggest problem might be himself, but what do The Panel believe he needs to do or change ahead of his showdown with Mikey Garcia?

Jamie Moore

Broner has to stay focused, be committed to the game and give 100 per cent while he can. You won't be young forever and he has great potential. I know he earns big money, but you can leave a different kind of legacy. Everyone knows his talent, but he is very much a fighter people love to hate.

He needs to tone it down and let the fighting do the talking. I haven't seen too much ahead of this one and from what I have seen, he has got himself in great shape and got his weight down. Maybe he has had a word with himself.

Kell Brook

I am a fan of Broner in and out of the ring - just let him be what he wants, be as controversial as he wants. He is being himself and does what he wants, so I don't have a problem with him bringing that into the ring.

I am not sure he would listen to anyone's advice, but I'd tell him to shave that beard off! Especially if he's struggling to make the weight.

I'm not really in any position to give Broner advice - we are talking about a four-weight world champion. He's won big fights before and I'm sure he has more big wins ahead of him, so he's not doing too much wrong.

For this one, he has to try and control the tempo of the fight, and dictate the pace and the range of the fight - but it will be very hard against Garcia.

You are who you are at this stage of your life and he's someone who could be as prepared as anyone else for a fight - but getting in that ring, his mental approach is never the right way and the rest can just fall apart.

Against Mikey, Adrien Broner can't switch off and I don't think he will. He knows what this fight means to him; it is pretty much a dead-end fight if he loses. He knows he can't afford to switch off.

Business has to come before pleasure. Forget the limelight, this is all about him and his personal achievement. I would tell him not to try and show off to me, the Barclays Center crowd, Showtime, all of America, just do it for yourself.

Brendan Ingle used to tell us: 'stop worrying about looking good' and we have seen Broner do that too often and I don't just mean how he is fighting. He can't afford to mess around in this one. Just get on with it.

At this level, he is in these mega fights and not being active against these top guys is what will make him lose.

If I was his coach, I would just say that his punch output has to be more, but he's a four-weight world champion let's remember. At this level, he is in these mega fights and not being active against these top guys is what will make him lose.

He was supposed to beat me. If I won it, that would have been a massive shock, but when he fights another star that's when you look at what he does wrong, not being active.

Anthony Crolla

Broner is a multiple weight world champ so you have to respect what he has done, I know he messes about but I think it's wearing a bit thin with the public and boxing world now. He has to realise what he is good at and see his talent and start living the life of a fighter.

He seems to be doing things for this fight, it is crazy to say he's a four-weight world champ and hasn't fulfilled his potential. The problems are outside the ring and going up a good few stone in between fights certainly isn't great.

Luke Campbell

For him to reach his full potential, he's got to be 100 per cent focused and then we’re going to see the best of Adrien Broner.

I just think if you're going to do something, commit to it and do it 100 per cent, or don't do it at all. It does show you how talented he actually is, if he's cut corners or he hasn't lived the life.

Talent will only get you so far in this sport. It's all about hard work, dedication, being strong, being fit. They are very important tools to have in the sport of boxing, especially as a professional.

The much anticipated super-lightweight fight between Adrien Broner and Mikey Garcia will be shown live on Sky Sports late on Saturday night

Watch Broner vs Garcia live from the Barclays Center, Brooklyn, from 1am, Sunday, July 30, on Sky Sports Action (Ch407).
