Kell Brook believes he could be just one fight away from a long-awaited British battle with Amir Khan at Wembley.

Britain’s two best welterweights could finally settle their rivalry next summer after Khan revealed he had held talks with Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn about a blockbuster domestic showdown.

After repeatedly calling out Khan, Brook has welcomed news of the negotiations and is confident the fight can replicate the success of Carl Froch-George Groves II, which drew a crowd of around 80,000 to the national stadium.

But Brook must firstly defend his IBF welterweight title in a bout planned for October, while Khan is also due to take one more fight before the end of the year, and the Sheffield boxer is determined to stay on course for the bumper clash.

"I know that talks are on the way. It looks like British fans might finally get the fight that is well overdue,” Brook told Sky Sports.

"I’m due to fight in October and I think he is expected to fight in November, so let’s get those wins and build towards a huge summer showdown next year.

It doesn’t get any bigger than walking out in your own country, with a packed out stadium, full of people anticipating the fight.

"It will fill any open-air arena. I think it will build into an even bigger fight, so we might have to build it up a little bit more.

"It would mean everything, especially being involved in boxing all my life. It doesn’t get any bigger than walking out in your own country, with a packed out stadium, full of people anticipating the fight."

Brook’s long-running feud with Khan dates back to sparring sessions in the amateur ranks, with both fighters suggesting they were the better man.

‘The Special One’ admits he would relish the opportunity to silence Khan with a convincing win in front of a massive watching audience.

Brook said: "It would be so satisfying because I’m hearing the name, I’m hearing about the fight wherever I go, whatever I do, so it will put a lot of things to bed.

"It’s been too long and I think the fight has to happen."
