Ohara Davies claimed the WBA international title with a sixth round knockout of Tom Farrell in Liverpool

Ohara Davies destroyed Liverpool's Tom Farrell as he made a spiteful and impressive return to winning ways while also claiming the WBA International title.

The Hackney super-lightweight had the local favourite on the canvas on four previous occasions before a punishing right hand finally brought an end to the contest.

With an almost extraordinary long reach, Davies, 25, came out and sent home some booming right backhands to quickly take authority and bloody the face of the previously unbeaten Farrell, setting the tone for what would become a punishing and one-sided fight.

'Two Tanks' then quickly landed a huge left hook in the final seconds of the opener that left 'Fazza' flat on his back staring upwards in disbelief.

The local boxer showed great heart to return to his feet and beat the count, but with just a minute in-between rounds to recuperate, the Londoner was soon back on the hunt and almost immediately on the restart a booming straight left had Farrell down again.

Again the Liverpool man willfully got back to his feet, but he would not be there for long as a softer blow by Davies' standards again grounded 'Fazza'.

With a stoppage victory almost looking a certainty for Davies, Farrell actually started to find some success of his own in the next few periods, switching to a southpaw stance and finding some neat counters, although 'Two Tanks' was still clearly on top.

The home fighter, 27, then perhaps had his best round of the title contest, landing well on the front foot, but the power of the Londoner's long levers coming back at him remained a painful concern.

Davies was still stalking and in the sixth, a barrage of huge straight shots made for uneasy viewing before a massive right hand again knocked Farrell down and this time there was no getting up.

After the fight Davies said: "It was redemption, I'm not happy with my performance, there is still a lot to improve on and I'm looking forward to continuing my journey.

"There was a lot of negativity after my last fight, I had a lot of issues before that defeat, since then I've knuckled down, listened to my coach and I'm glad to be back to winning ways.

"Farrell is still a champion in my eyes."
