Sky Sports expects Adrien Broner against Mikey Garcia - to be shown live on Sky Sports - to be one of the fights of the year

Mikey Garcia says he will go back down to lightweight for a unification fight with Jorge Linares once he's dealt with Adrien Broner.

The unbeaten Californian takes on 'The Problem' at the Barclays Center, Brooklyn, on July 29, live on Sky Sports.

The fight is up at super-lightweight with no belt on the line and although he is expecting Broner to be the toughest test of his career, the WBC lightweight champion admits his goal is to go back down to face Linares, the WBC Diamond and WBA champion at 135lbs.

"My initial plan is to come back down to unify the titles," he exclusively told Sky Sports.

Taking this fight with Adrien Broner is a very interesting fight and I wasn't able to secure any unification fights at the moment. But I do plan on moving down and doing that.

"I would really like a fight with Linares but if that's not available and other unification fights are unavailable, I will have to look at the super-lightweight or even welterweight.

Linares is waiting for a serious hand injury to clear up, following his back-to-back wins over Anthony Crolla.

'El Nino' broke his right hand in the September rematch forcing him to pull out of a proposed unification fight with then-WBC lightweight champion Dejan Zlaticanin.

Garcia took the fight instead and won his third world title at a different weight with a brutal third-round finish.

The 29-year-old had already won belts at feather and super-featherweight and a win over Broner will establish him in the super-lightweight division, where Terence Crawford (WBC & WBO) and Julius Indongo (WBA & IBF) battle it out for all four belts in August.

"The options are going to be big after this fight, so I would definitely look at fighting the winner of Crawford-Indongo and those sort of fights.

"We have to be flexible and adjust and adapt with the business and move on. We can't sit around waiting, waiting and waiting, I need to be taking control with my career and take it forward. I want to take on Linares after this."
