Anthony Dirrell will face David Benavidez on September 9 in Los Angeles, California for the vacant WBC super-middleweight title.
Dirrell, 32, had been set to fight Liverpool's Callum Smith, but the latter opted to enter the World Boxing Super Series tournament instead, where he will now face Erik Skoglund on September 16.
Dirrell was previously the holder of the coveted WBC title when he beat Sakio Bika back in 2014, but the Michigan fighter fell short in his first title defence at the hands of Badou Jack, losing via a majority points decision.
Jack has since vacated the title, opting instead to move up to light-heavyweight, and the WBC governing body has confirmed that a date and location for a fight between Dirrell and Benavidez has now been finalised.
Benavidez, 20, who has stopped all but one of his 18 opponents, has looked imperious so far in his career and already holds knockout victories over Denis Douglin and Rogelio Medina among others.
