Ahead of James DeGale’s New York showdown with Badou Jack, we look at why he has earned himself the reputable ‘road warrior’ tag.

IBF super-middleweight champion DeGale is hoping to unify world titles when he takes on WBC title holder Jack at the Barclays Center this Sunday morning, live on Sky Sports.

James DeGale: Road Warrior

The 30-year-old and 2008 Olympic gold medallist has never shied away from leaving his home comforts in pursuit of glory and he will hope to continue his hot streak in North America against Jack.

DeGale's journey on the road notably started back in 2010 when the Londoner travelled to Liverpool and stopped local favourite Paul Smith to win the British title.

After that impressive showing, a contentious loss to bitter rival George Groves, injuries and inactivity halted his progress, but DeGale rebuilt and in 2015, he travelled to Boston to take on Andre Dirrell for world honours.

Victory would go to DeGale and the Brit has since twice defended his belt on North American soil to suggest that he may just be the king of the road.
