Lennox Lewis v Evander Holyfield II, Las Vegas, 1999
Lewis had been cruelly denied a unification victory after his first fight with Evander Holyfield in March of that year, which was controversially scored a draw, despite a dominant performance from the travelling Brit.
Due to widespread outrage at the scorecards, a rematch was staged in November, with Lewis putting his WBC heavyweight belt on the line, while Holyfield would defend his WBA and IBF titles.
The second fight would be more entertaining as a fired-up Holyfield staged a fightback in the middle rounds, but Lewis finished strongly to earn a unanimous decision and was crowned as No 1 in the division.
Naseem Hamed v Cesar Soto, Detroit, 1999
Hamed had blasted aside a line of challengers during his four-year reign as WBO featherweight champion and was expected to take the WBC belt from Soto with another explosive display.
But the flamboyant showman from Sheffield would be dragged into an ugly dogfight and was docked a second point after throwing Soto to the canvas.
Hamed would at least end the contest with a flourish, bloodying Soto's nose in the ninth, but could not find a punch to stop the tough Mexican and was greeted with criticism after adding another world title in a unanimous decision win.
Amir Khan v Zab Judah, Las Vegas, 2011
Khan's profile in the United States had already been boosted by a dramatic points victory over Marcos Maidana and the WBA super-lightweight champion set his sights on Zab Judah's IBF title.
Back in 2001, the American had been stopped by Kostya Tszyu in a previous unification clash, but the heavy-handed Judah had regained his old IBF belt after halting Kaizer Mabuza.
Khan needed just five rounds to collect another title, dropping and stopping Judah with a right uppercut to the body, as the referee correctly ignored the Brooklyn man's appeals for a low blow.
Carl Froch v Andre Ward, Atlantic City, 2011
Froch would face Ward in the final of the Super Six, a super-middleweight tournament which was introduced to confirm the best fighter in the 168lb division.
The Nottingham man held the WBC belt and was hoping to end the unbeaten record of WBA champion Ward in front of the American's home fans.
But Froch would be continually frustrated by the slick defensive skills of Ward, who edged the rounds with more eye-catching punches, and withstood a late rally from 'The Cobra' to claim a unanimous decision win.
