Andre Ward believes he will create his boxing legacy if he beats Sergey Kovalev on Saturday night in Las Vegas

Andre Ward is hoping to create a legacy when he takes on Sergey Kovalev in their light-heavyweight showdown in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The fighters had their grand arrivals in Las Vegas on Tuesday night ahead of the eagerly-anticipated at the T-Mobile Arena, live on Sky Sports.

Russian powerhouse Kovalev is putting his WBO, IBF and WBA Super world titles on the line against unbeaten American Ward, who recently moved up from super-middleweight.

Ward said: "Just looking at the era of Sugar Ray Leonard, Tommy Hearns, Marvin Hagler - those guys fought each other. And Roberto Duran, they put reputations, they put records, they put all those things on the line, just saying that 'I'm better than you'; and none of those fights were easy for any of those guys.

"They did their part to etch themselves in boxing history where guys like myself have watched them growing up, and I want to do my part to do the same."

Kovalev picked up his first world title by blasting out Wales' Nathan Cleverly back in 2013 and has since gone on to virtually destroy everyone in his path.
