Frankie Gavin plans to show his superior boxing skills against Sam Eggington - but will not back away from a "tear-up" with his local rival.

The former British and Commonwealth welterweight champion will battle Eggington this Saturday night at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham, live on Sky Sports.

Gavin, a former world amateur champion, is confident he can outclass Eggington but is willing to show his battling qualities against 'The Savage.'

Asked for a pre-fight prediction, Gavin told Sky Sports: "A boxing lesson and an explosive fight. There is going to be times in there when we both stand and trade and have a tear-up, and hopefully I'll come out on top."

Back in March, Bradley Skeete took Eggington's British title with a unanimous points decision and Gavin has been studying footage of this defeat as he wants to expose his opponent's defensive limitations in devastating fashion.

"I've looked into it obviously," said Gavin. "I've watched the way Bradley made him miss and hit him. I've worked out the shots he was getting caught with. I just don't see how he beats me.

"He's going to put a lot of pressure on, he's going to throw a lot of shots, but that means he will be open for big counters. I think it will be there for me, definitely. I don't think it is going 12, no way."

Bragging rights will be on the line in Birmingham

This weekend's fight has been billed as 'Bragging Rights' but Gavin believes both fighters deserve credit for taking a career-changing clash, regardless of the result.

"At the end of the day, we're putting it all on the line, no one else," said Gavin. "People can't give us stick for losing. Whoever loses is going to be absolutely gutted. It's a big fight, we didn't have to take this fight.

"We both wanted it, we both believe we can win it. Obviously there is going to be a lot of people saying stuff, but I would be more gutted for myself than whatever anyone else says to me.

"I won't be hiding my head, I've got a family to support."
