Frankie Gavin says Bradley Skeete showed how to beat Sam Eggington and he will do an even better job

Frankie Gavin says his boxing brain will take the Birmingham bragging rights away from Sam Eggington.

The former world title challenger takes on his local welterweight rival at the Barclaycard Arena on Saturday, live on Sky Sports.

I don't think he's got a very good boxing IQ. I think it's very low. He's very poor technically and I still stick to that.

The pair were supposed to fight almost a year ago to the day on October 15, only for the showdown to fall through the week before.

Eggington beat late replacement Dale Evans on the night but went on to lose his British and Commonwealth titles to Bradley Skeete and with the WBC International welterweight title on the line, Gavin is confident he will have too much for his city rival.

"I know people will say it's a completely different fight but it's not completely different [in terms of style], it's just I am a better boxer than Skeete and I'm harder to hit than Skeete," he told Sky Sports.

"This is going to be a good night for Frankie Gavin.

"I don't think he can change. I remember talking to his coaches, when the fight was never on and we said things like 'you know what you'll get with Sam'. I don't think he can change much.

"When I said about him being dumb, I didn't mean about him being dumb as a person, I just meant boxing-wise.

Eggington took less than two minutes to beat Daza Usher

Gavin, who in 2007 became the first British amateur to win a gold medal at a world championships, has only boxed once in the last 15 months, after being forced to pull out of the Eggington fight due to issues outside the ring.

He stopped Ivo Gogosevic in the last of six rounds in Leeds, his first fight back since losing his world title challenge against Kell Brook and on the same card that saw Eggington return to winning ways.

"I am glad to be back in big-time boxing," he said.

"It's all just fun and games really with the six and eight-rounders but this has really got me up for it. I am in great condition and can't wait to fight Sam."
