Bellew vs Flores: Derry Mathews confident of stopping Luke Campbell

Derry Mathews believes that he will expose and stop Luke Campbell when the pair battle for the WBC Silver lightweight title in Liverpool this Saturday.

The Liverpool favourite will challenge Campbell having previously fallen short against WBO champion Terry Flanagan in his 50th bout as a pro and is confident that his experience and power will break the heart of his younger opponent and set up another world title shot.

Although Mathews (38-10-2-KO20) has the professional experience, Olympic gold medallist Campbell (14-1-KO11) has the greater amateur pedigree and is on the comeback trail having faced the first defeat of his career against Yvan Mendy last year.

Both lightweights know that defeat puts them a long way away from any potential world title challenge and Mathews is assured that it will be him who is victorious on fight night, as they battle live on Sky Sports.

He said: "Everyone knows that Luke was a great amateur but there are flaws in him, anyone who knows boxing can see that. I know I'm going to go in there and break his heart.

"He's never been in with anyone like me before and he will get exposed. I punch much harder than any of the lightweights out there and he's been dropped in two out of his last three fights by guys who hit nowhere near as hard as I do.

"When I clip him, he's in big trouble and he'll go down. I believe I'll tag him badly, hurt him, then it will be all over."

Despite having the home advantage, Mathews does not think that it will be a decisive factor in determining the outcome of the fight.

"Luke has boxed all over the world and he's an Olympic gold medallist so I'd be surprised if the crowd gets to him.

"But he is coming to my backyard and I can't wait to see all the mad Scousers screaming on Saturday for me. It will be a new experience for him so let's see how he gets on."

"He can have all the speed in the world but he is going to get tagged by me at some stage in the fight and he will be in serious trouble. I can't wait to win the WBC Silver title and be knocking on the door for another world title shot."
