Michael Conlan and Paddy Barnes have signed professional deals after their respective disappointments at the Olympic Games.

Belfast bantamweight Conlan was knocked out in the quarter-finals in Rio, losing a 3-0 decision to Russia's Vladimir Nikitin in a decision that left many experts scratching their heads.

Conlan, a flyweight bronze medallist at London 2012, said in a furious interview after the defeat that he would never fight in an International Boxing Association (AIBA) fight again.

And he has now signed with Top Rank Promotions to guide his professional career, a company which also boasts the likes of Manny Pacquiao and Terence Crawford on its books.

Conlan leaves the amateur ranks as reigning world and European champion, and he also won a gold medal for Northern Ireland at the Commonwealth Games in 2014.

Barnes, who confirmed he was going pro last week, has signed with Matthew Macklin's MGM group after losing his opening round bout at the Olympics in his amateur farewell.

He is set to start his pro career at flyweight after admitting his problems in Rio were down to a weight struggle in the light-flyweight division. Conlan's brother Jamie is also a pro with MGM.

"After the Olympics there was many offers on the table but being part of Team MGM was the natural choice," Barnes said.

"I honestly believe I have the ideal team to guide me to world title opportunities. I've enjoyed every minute of my time as an amateur and my achievements are something I am very proud of."
