Saul Alvarez has insisted he is not underestimating Liam Smith ahead of their WBO super welterweight clash in Texas at the weekend.

Alvarez (47-1-1-KO33) faces an English opponent for the second fight in succession after knocking out Amir Khan in devastating fashion in the sixth round of their bout in May.

The former WBC, WBA and the Ring light middleweight champion and WBC middleweight champion is odds-on favourite with bookmakers to relieve Smith of his title.

Smith: Alvarez has overlooked Liam

Paul Smith believes Saul Alvarez has overlooked his brother Liam - and will pay the price

However, the Mexican, whose only defeat was to ring legend Floyd Mayweather on points in 2013, is taking nothing for granted against an opponent he rates as "dangerous".

"We have seen footage of Liam Smith, he is a strong fighter and his style of boxing is similar to mine," Alvarez said during a workout on Thursday.

"Both our styles will make a great fight for all the fans on Saturday. He is a hard puncher, connects, comes forward and has good combinations. We know he is dangerous and we are not underestimating him.

"I am preparing for a fighter that comes forward, I am ready for anything. We will show the best fight we can for all the fans on Saturday night."

Jose 'Chepo' Reynoso, Alvarez's manager and trainer, believes a clash of styles will provide an exciting showdown for fight fans.

"Styles make fights and Liam Smith's style is one that suits Canelo," said Reynoso.

"Canelo likes fighters that come forward he is that type of fighter as well. And these kinds of fights are the ones that are very exciting for the fans.

"I can't predict what Liam will do in the ring and we can't necessarily plan for it. We have to be ready for everything. We can have a game plan and if your opponent isn't letting you execute and you have to adjust.

"A fighter has two hands and both hands can punch. Liam has power and we need to be prepared for that power, whether that comes from the right hand or the left hand."
