Sam Eggington has vowed to punch Frankie Gavin “from pillar to post” on October 22, in repayment for what he feels were disrespectful comments.

The pair will meet in an all-Birmingham welterweight clash at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham, live on Sky Sports. They were originally set to fight in October 2015, but Gavin was ruled out by injury.

Eggington is aiming to get back into title contention after surrendering his British and Commonwealth welterweight straps to Bradley Skeete in March.

"I'm delighted that the fight with Frankie is finally here," said Eggington. "I want to get that British title back and win it outright, and I know that I need a good win to get back into contention.

"I can't wait to get in there with him. I'm not known for talking too much because I don't think you should trash talk, but Frankie's said a few things about me and it's got my back up to be honest.

"I don't mind him having a go at the way I box, but he's said some personal stuff about me and that's got me annoyed, and now I am going to punch him from pillar to post.

"There's no reason to get personal, maybe he's trying to do it to throw me off my game but it's going to backfire on him. If he's going to dig me out personally in interviews then he's going to regret it on fight night because I'm going to do a job on him.

"I trained hard for the Skeete fight but I had the wrong mentality for the fight. I've learnt from that and it's not going to happen against Frankie, it was a good time for me to learn that lesson."

Gavin has boxed just once since he unsuccessfully challenged Kell Brook for his IBF welterweight title in May 2015, knocking out Ivo Gogosevic in July after issues outside the ring forced him onto the sidelines.

'Funtime' has teamed up with Max McCracken in his time out and is adamant he will have too much for Eggington.

"This is going to be a massive fight," said Gavin. "We know Sam can punch and he's game. It's going to be a great fight, and one I'll win well because the minute he gets in with a mover he struggles.

"Sam's a tough kid but boxing-wise he is technically poor. I'm very confident ahead of that fight.

"Once I beat Sam, I just want the big fights, that's the stage of my career I'm at. I'm only 30 and I've still got another five or six years left in me and I've got a new lease of life with Max."
