David Haye has revealed he is holding talks about a possible fight against WBA heavyweight champion Lucas Browne on May 21.

The Londoner is yet to announce his next opponent, with Shannon Briggs and Malik Scott both claiming they are being considered, but Haye has claimed that Browne could be in the opposite corner at London's O2 Arena.

Browne recently claimed a version of the WBA title with a comeback stoppage win over Ruslan Chagaev last weekend and promoter Ricky Hatton said this week he will consider lucrative offers to the Australian.

Fres Oquendo is due to challenge Browne as part of a WBA heavyweight tournament, although Haye hopes the prospect of a big purse will convince the Aussie to face him next.

Speaking in a video posted on his official Facebook page, Haye said: "Lots has been happening behind the scenes, with my opponent to be announced. But a very good thing has happened and that was Lucas Browne winning the WBA heavyweight championship of the world over in Grozny, Chechnya.

"Something I didn't believe he could do, but it could potentially be a blessing in disguise that I haven't been able to nail down an opponent as yet, because it seems after speaking to Team Hatton that the possibility of Lucas Browne being available to fight on the show against myself is a possibility."

Haye admitted he still needs to work towards a deal and has lined up another 'non-title fight', but is optimistic he can reach an agreement with Browne.

"Nothing is done until it's done," said Haye. "But normally in boxing in my experience - and I've had quite a bit - if it makes financial sense for everybody involved, nine times out of 10 unless there is egos involved or there is some deep-rooted hatred, whatever makes the most amount of money seems to make sense.

"I can't see a bigger fight at the moment that is available to happen for Lucas Browne, other than myself."

Haye wants to regain a version of the WBA title, which he originally won with a points win over Nikolay Valuev in 2009, and hopes Oquendo can be persuaded to step aside if he is promised a fight against the winner.

He said: "Obviously Fres Oquendo will need to be happy because he is mandated to fight Lucas Browne next, I'm aware of that. But once again if you gave Fres Oquendo the chance to fight Lucas Browne or fight myself, I think I know what the answer would be."

Promoter Ricky Hatton was unavailable for comment but Browne's manager Matt Clark said, as far as he was concerned, Oquendo would be his man's next opponent.

Clark said: "Prior to the fight with Chagaev we signed an undertaking that our next fight and first defence of the title will be against Fres Oquendo.

"The call outs from Briggs, Parker's team and Solomon Haumono are absolutely pointless. Realistically they're just trying to get some media on the back of Lucas's historic accomplishment.

"We will honour our contractual agreement and we look forward to having Lucas win the WBA tournament and continuing to make history".
