Hosea Burton claimed the British light-heavyweight title with a sixth-round stoppage win over Miles Shinkwin in Manchester.
The domestic rivals produced an entertaining contest as Shinkwin battled back from a second-round knockdown, but Burton ended his defiant resistance with a big overhand right.
Shinkwin seemed to edge a tentative opening round with his cleaner punches, but Burton quickly demonstrated his superior power in the second round.
A sweetly-timed short left dropped Shinkwin to his knees on the canvas and he groggily held Burton at bay until the bell.
The Watford man was far from finished as he bloodied Burton's nose in the third and relished the chance to trade more punches in a tightly-contested fourth.
But Burton again landed his big right hand in the fifth, sending Shinkwin back to the canvas, and this potent weapon would bring a sudden halt to the action in the sixth.
As Shinkwin strode forward, Burton uncorked that right to send his opponent lurching into the ropes and referee Victor Loughlin stepped in.
Earlier in the night, Charlie Edwards was forced to settle for a wide points win over Luke Wilton.
The English flyweight champion picked holes in Wilton's defences with his precise shots, but could not find a fight-ending punch.
Scott Fitzgerald made an impressive debut in the professional ranks as he halted Ben Heap in the third round with a stinging body shot.
