Martin Murray is keen to set up a high-class domestic clash with fellow world super-middleweight title challenger George Groves.

Both Murray and Groves were denied by split decisions in their most recent bids to become world champions - edged by WBO holder Arthur Abraham and WBC king Badou Jack respectively.

Now Murray, who suffered a trio of disappointments at the very top level against Felix Sturm, Sergio Martinez and Gennady Golovkin before stepping up from middleweight, is targeting his fellow Britons.

The St Helens fighter (32-3-1-KO15) told Sky Sports: "I think Groves is a good fighter. He's a sharp-shooter with good boxing skills and good power. I think he fades [in] the second halves of fights and if he and I fought, that's when I'd take over.

"He's not got that high a punch resistance. George is now my rival and a fight with George Groves is a fight that I want.

"I was unlucky in my last fight and I'm ready for all-comers now. I'm looking for those big domestic fights against the likes of Groves, Paul Smith and James DeGale."

With Groves hunting a fourth shot at world title glory, Murray is hoping to begin a journey to a fifth and is already back in the gym and keen to work his way towards a mandatory position with one of the governing bodies.

The 33-year-old added: "I want to stay at that type of level. Where I've gone wrong in the past, I've had a world title fight and then come back in six-rounders on undercards and failed to capitalise on the exposure from the world title fight.

"I want to go straight back in to 12-rounders. Every world title fight I've had has been a voluntary barring Golovkin. I've had great experience at that level and I know I belong there, but it's worked against me not having that chance to go for a mandatory position and have that chance to fight at home.

"I'm still young. I've been a professional for eight years and haven't been in many wars. I've got time left in the boxing game and although I'll always fight anybody anywhere, I've got to be a bit more patient and get some big domestic fights that I've always wanted."

Murray, who was stopped in the 11th round by Golovkin in February 2015, is one of only two men to have ever taken the hard-hitting Kazakh past eight.
