George Groves involved in Arthur Abraham v Martin Murray world title rematch clause

Martin Murray could face domestic rival George Groves if he wins the WBO world super-middleweight title from Arthur Abraham on November 21.

The St Helens fighter (32-2-1-KO15) travels to Germany to take on Abraham (43-4-KO29) live on Sky Sports and was recently mentioned as a potential 2016 opponent for newly-crowned British champion Callum Smith.

But with Smith more likely to go down the WBC route, Murray has revealed his contract to fight Abraham involves a rematch clause with the German's promoters - the Sauerland Brothers - that names George Groves as a ready-and-waiting challenger should Abraham opt against a return bout.

There's a rematch clause in there but along with Abraham, it's with another three Sauerland fighters, including George Groves and Vincent Feigenbutz.

When asked if he was interested in defending a world title against Smith in the future, Murray told Sky Sports: "I didn't see post-fight interviews after Callum's win [against Rocky Fielding] and I didn't know I was mentioned, but yeah. Why not?

"Callum's a great fighter with a lot of hype around him at the minute. I've always wanted a big domestic fight. I've always said that. If that's a fight for further down the line then it's obviously it's one I'd take.

"I've got obligations with rematches. It's common sense. There's a rematch clause in there but along with Abraham, it's with another three Sauerland fighters, including George Groves and Vincent Feigenbutz. I'm not sure of the other.

"To be honest, I'm not bothered who they are. They could put Mike Tyson in there for all I care. I'm not bothered. I'm just focusing on this fight and on getting a win.

Murray has stopped all three of his opponents since stepping up to super-middleweight from middleweight, where he came up short in three world title fights - losing to Sergio Martinez and Gennady Golovkin and drawing with Felix Sturm.

Similarly, Groves (21-3-KO16) has failed in his three attempts to become a world champion - losing to Carl Froch twice and most recently being defeated by WBC champion Badou Jack.

Murray's tilt at Abraham is part of a busy night of Sky Sports boxing on November 21, with Anthony Crolla making a second attempt to dethrone WBA lightweight champion Darleys Perez.
