Quigg vs Yefimovych: The Panel discuss whether Scott Quigg should fight in the States

By The Panel, Boxers, Trainers & Pundits

Scott Quigg said he wants the Leo Santa Cruz fight but he is fully focused on Oleg Yefimovich in Monte Carlo.

Now living and training in Los Angeles, should Scott Quigg's next move be to start fighting regularly across the pond...

There are certainly exciting options for Quigg on both sides of the Atlantic with Carl Frampton, Lee Selby and Josh Warrington fighting out of Britain, while Oscar Valdez, Gary Russell Jr, Abner Mares and Leo Santa Cruz head a starring cast in the States.

But, if victorious on Saturday, what route do our select Panel members think the Bury star should take...

I think that Quigg should probably go to America, that's a good move for his career. He's obviously fighting in Monaco this Saturday, but I would like to see him fight someone of note over there.

If he could get a fight with Leo Santa Cruz, that would be ideal for his career, but there are plenty of exciting options and he just needs to try his luck and go for it.

From a selfish perspective, I would much rather Quigg stay in Britain. Boxing is booming in the UK and Selby and Frampton are here among others. If he has ambition to fight in the States however, and I know he wants to be great, he has to get involved over there.

If he wins on Saturday, he is in line for the Santa Cruz-Mares winner and that can happen. I do just feel that everyone, myself included, would rather see the Frampton rematch or a Selby fight. Saying that, he certainly wouldn't be out of his depth over there.

It's a difficult one now for Quigg, this is a good fight coming up for him at featherweight. If he impresses, he has to be manoeuvred into another world title shot. The thing is now he could be sat sucking eggs while the big super-fights are going on.

Santa Cruz and Mares will rematch and nothing will get in the way of that. You have to look at who else is out there and what is marketable for him, if everyone else is tied up then he won't get a world title crack on the back of this, he will just have to be patient and wait, I'm sure he's happy to go wherever the big fights are.

Quigg going out there to train and try to revive his career shows how hungry he still is and I think that's where he needs to be at this stage. That's where he needs to go.

We've seen in recent times that British boxers have had success in America, going over and winning fights. It's not like the old days where you would rarely see a win. Now boys are going over there with confidence. I don't think it would faze Scott and he might have to take a world title fight in America.
